July 8: Airport Hotel

If you have reserved and paid for a hotel room, one of your leaders will meet you at the hotel and stay overnight with the group. We will send you an email one week prior to departure with details about the hotel reservation and instructions on how to meet your leader.

July 9: Departure Day, Miami to Liberia

Group Meeting:

At 10:00 AM, meet your leader and fellow students at the American Airlines check-in counter (outside of security) at Miami International Airport (MIA). This is the official start of your Putney program!

Group Flight:

The group will fly on American Airlines flight #4700 departing Miami (MIA) at 1:15 PM, arriving in Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR), at 2:03 PM local time (3 hours en route).

July 9 & 10: Playa Samara

Spend your first days exploring the beaches of the northwestern coast, getting to know your leaders and group, visiting pristine beaches, taking surfing lessons, and participating in an in-depth orientation discussing life in Costa Rica and prepare for your time in your project village.

July 11–19: Bonanza Norte

Travel by bus to our small host village located in a fertile valley in Northern Costa Rica. Work together with the local community to complete a series of construction, educational, and agricultural projects. Take a day trip from your village and spend an afternoon riding rapids on the Sarapiqui River.

July 20 & 21: Arenal

Stay at a sustainable ecolodge located at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. Explore during the day and soak in the hot springs at night.

July 22: Playa Hermosa

On your last day in country, return to the coast for a final, celebratory dinner on the beach with your group.  

July 23: Return Day, Liberia to Miami

Group Flight:

The group will fly on American Airlines flight #1937 departing Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) at 12:47 PM local time and returning to the International Arrivals Area of Miami International Airport (MIA) at 5:50 PM (3 hours en route).

July 23: Airport Hotel
